Claim: Given a morphism whose category is coregular, if it is an extremal monomorphism, then it is a regular monomorphism.

Proof: Let m:A→Bm : A \to B be an extremal monomorphism in a coregular category. By coregularity, we may factor it as m=i∘em = i \circ e, where i:C→Bi : C \to B is a regular monomorphism and e:A→Ce : A \to C is an epimorphism. Since mm is an extremal monomorphism, ee is an isomorphism. Therefore, m≅im \cong i is a regular monomorphism.
The proof shows that the assumption of coregularity can be relaxed to the existence of (Epi, RegMono)-factorizations.
