Claim: If a category is direct, then it has cosifted limits.

Proof: Let D:I→CD : \I \to \C be a cosifted diagram in a direct category C\C. Assume that for every i∈Ii \in \I there is a morphism j→ij \to i in I\I such that D(j)→D(i)D(j) \to D(i) is not an identity. Since I\I is non-empty, this yields an infinite sequence of non-identity morphisms ⋯→D(i2)→D(i1)→D(i0)\cdots \to D(i_2) \to D(i_1) \to D(i_0), a contradiction. Thus, there is some i0∈Ii_0 \in \I such that D(j)→D(i0)D(j) \to D(i_0) is an identity for every morphism j→i0j \to i_0. By the dual of Lemma 1 here, D(i0)D(i_0) is a limit object of DD.

This implication has a dual.
