Claim: If a category has cofiltered-limit-stable epimorphisms and is countably extensive, then it is thin.

Proof: Let C\C be a countably extensive category with cofiltered-limit-stable epimorphisms. We show that C\C is thin. (With other results, one can further deduce that C\C is trivial.)Let TT be an object, let TmT_m be the summand with index mm of the coproduct ∐m∈NT\coprod_{m \in \IN} T, and for n∈Nn \in \IN let D(n)≔∐m≥nTm.\textstyle D(n) \coloneqq \coprod_{m \geq n} T_m. The canonical morphisms D(n′)→D(n)D(n') \to D(n) for n≤n′n \leq n' form a cofiltered diagram D:(N,≥)→CD : (\IN,\geq) \to \C, whose limit is initial by this lemma. For every n∈Nn \in \IN, the codiagonal D(n)→TD(n) \to T is an epimorphism, since its composite with the coproduct inclusion Tn↪D(n)T_n \hookrightarrow D(n) is the identity. Together, they form a morphism from DD to the constant diagram with value TT, whose limit is TT. By assumption, their limit 0→T0 \to T is an epimorphism. Since 00 is initial, it follows that any two morphisms T⇉YT \rightrightarrows Y coincide. Thus, C\C is thin.
